Jacob C. Peng is the Department Head and Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting & Taxation, School of Business at Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh, USA. Before he joined RMU in 2014 he was an Assistant and tenured Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Michigan-Flint. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration with Accounting concentration from Texas Tech University. Prior to his doctoral work he earned an M.S. in Accountancy degree from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and worked in the IT field. Dr. Peng’s research interest focuses on the behavioral impact of information technologies and how technologies affect the dissemination of accounting information. His work has been published in a number of scholarly journals, including Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, International Journal of Accounting, the CPA Journal, among others. He currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Accounting Research, and on the editorial board of the Review of Accounting and Finance.
Dr. Peng is a respected teacher scholar, winning multiple teaching awards from Robert Morris University and University of Michigan-Flint. He has been active in curricular advances as he has engaged in undergraduate Accounting, MBA, and M.S. Taxation curricular design at RMU, and the development of an educational abroad course “East Asian Capital Markets and International Accounting” for which he received the 2018 Center for Global Engagement Faculty Global Award.
Since becoming Department Head Dr. Peng has led the department in many student-centered initiatives that encourage students to broaden, deepen and apply their learning through a variety of professional experiences. A sample of his leadership in this area includes, achieving and receiving Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Higher Education Endorsement, advising and coaching student teams in the IIA/PICPA Audit Case Competition, advocating professional student organizations such as Beta Alpha Psi, IMA Student Chapter, Association for Future Accountants, and National Association of Black Accountants chapter, developing partnerships with major accounting system vendors to ensure students have ERP training opportunities at no cost, building relationships with all major professional accounting/auditing organizations and employers to engage students with career-building opportunities and resources, as well as leading the faculty in preparation for initial AACSB Accounting Accreditation.
Dr. Peng is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and is a member of American Accounting Association, ISACA, Institute of Management Accountants and Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs.
